Music

We play a wide variety of music styles to accommodate an expansive range of player and audience tastes. As abilities within the band vary, so do the technical difficulties of the pieces. Our repertoire includes:

* Classic audience favourites and show tunes like New York, New York, I Still Call Australia Home and Londonderry Air,
* Stirring concert epics such as Music for a Festival, Chanson Triste and Children's March
* Rousing marches including Midway March and Light Cavelry Overture
* Timeless film themes from Star Wars, Gladiator, Pocahontas and Phantom of the Opera to name a few
* And more popular modern tunes including the theme from Austin Powers (Soul Bossa Nova)

Aims

The Cranbourne Lions Concert Band aims to:

* Provide musicians from the community with the opportunity to participate in a concert band that contains a challenging and stimulating music program which continually extends member technical abilities and enhances musicianship. Provide a platform for knowledge transfer between more advanced musicians and less experienced players with members encouraged to reach their highest potential in all aspects of music.
* Promote the awareness and enjoyment of music within the wider community, supporting local functions, events and festivals, and enhancing and strengthening the Arts and Cultural Strategy within the City of Casey.

History

Playing music as a group in Cranbourne can be traced back to 1899, with the formation of a Brass Band. Member's names such as Facey, Wiltshire, Cochrane, Robertson, Hudson, McLellan, Grice and Brunt now grace many street signs as street names today. The band in its current form - a concert band - was formulated at a public meeting in 1986. George Stephens took up the challenge when the need for a band was raised within the community.
